City of Churches

Hello again all.

Coming to you from lovely Inverness - the city of churches it definitely gives little old Adelaide a run for its money on that front.

Today we had a slow start to the day....decided to not set an alarm so had bit of a lie in as we didn't have our walking tour booked until 1130.

We finally got up and got ready and walked round to get a coffee and something to eat and then made our way to High street to meet our group.

We went on a walking tour and the guide was a little eccentric she was a local English woman that turned up with a shopping jinker and a walking stick (I think she needed a gopher) as we were mostly waiting for her to walk between each stop.  She also used the walking stick to point around the place so you couldn't get too close or may have been wholloped. It definitely made for a different experience that's for sure.  It was an interesting walk and was great finally getting to link all the history together.  Some interesting facts about Inverness:

1. Only has a population of 70,000

2. Inverness has mountains one side of the city and ocean the other side

3. River Ness runs through it.  The river is very shallow and you can see bottom of the river. The river is very clean and runs very fast.  The ice melts from the mountains which then flows into Loch Ness and once that is full then the overflow comes into River Ness.

4. You can fish in the river for salmon and can eat the fish from it. The people of Inverness keep it very clean snd don't dump anything in it.

5.  Inverness is the northern most city in the United Kingdom. It was only granted city status in 2000.

6. The town hall which stands in The High Street looks almost pristine given its age and has never been cleaned.  This is due to the lack of pollution in Inverness. Whereas buildings the same age in Glasgow are grey and filthy due to the pollution.

After the tour we decided to keep walking around and thought we'd walk along the river as the weather was beautiful and see what we could find.  We walked along and found many people fishing in the river.  Then we crossed and walked back the other way.

To celebrate our lovely stroll we decided to have a pint and work out where we would have dinner.  We decided on Indian tonight. We had walked past the restaurant the last night and it smelled divine.
We could only get in at 2000 so we went back to the hotel for a couple of hours to relax and went out for a later dinner.  To walk off dinner we decided to go for a walk around town after and stumbled into a small ice cream shop.

On the road tomorrow for Abderdeen to the land of Claire's people (Clan Gordon).
