Towers and Bars!
Another busy day yesterday. We started the day off with a trial luggage pack to ensure that we could get all our shit back in our bags or whether extra luggage was required. Surprise, surprise, we purchased extra baggage allowance. We did our check in online, purchased baggage and then it was off for our last day of exploring.
We started with a tube ride to Borough Markets. Here we saw a lot of fresh food stalls and did some great people watching. We walked around and discovered many an oyster bar so decided to have sone freshly shucked oysters as an appetiser before lunch. They were of course delicious.
After oysters we found a stall that sold fresh focaccia rolls filed with cured meats, cheese and all the trimmings. Again, delicious! While sitting down and eating lunch though Claire got shat on by a bird. Good times. She didn't feel so bad after she saw it happen to someone else though so all was good. Here's hoping that brings us good luck for an upgrade on the way home.
After Borough Markets we headed towards the Tower of London. We spent a good couple of hours here doing some looking around, saw the Crown Jewels and heard some interesting stories from the guide. While walking around the Tower of London Claire managed to find a telephone box in her colour palette!!
After Tower of London we headed back across the Thames to Hays Galleria and had a sneaky pint while waiting to meet up with Dan. We headed towards the Tower Bridge to meet Dan so that we could get a discount rate on going up the bridge. Thanks Dan!! Claire walked up all the stairs to the top, and Carrie caught the lift with Dan, she was on his ticket as a carer, winning for money saved here. 1 pound each instead of 20 pound each!
We walked across the top of the bridge including over the glass panels (Carrie not really looking down at this point). We walked back down the stairs at the other end and in through the engine room to see how it worked back before it was converted to electricity.
From the Tower Bridge, we caught an Uber Boat along the Thames back to Westminster Pier and then caught the tube to Oxford street for dinner. We had a great pizza for dinner before heading to a really cool themed bar called Cahoots. It was fantastic. They have different themed areas and we sat in the area set up like an old train carriage in a tube stop. We had an early birthday drink with Dan (it's his birthday on Saturday). The cocktails were fantastic and they are all themed also. They are served in all different glasses etc, shaped like Queen Elizabeth II, Winston Churchill, Old Phone boxes. They were great.
After a late finish at the bar, we said our goodbye and caught our last tube back to our apartment to crawl into bed for a few hours.
After a few hours sleep, the alarm went off this morning and we were up to cram the last few things into our cases and then waited for our transfer to the airport. The guy did well to Tetris all our crap in to the back of the Tesla.
After check in and security it was off to the bar for a last holiday pint before the long long long trek home. No such luck on the upgrade though. Let's hope economy is soooo full on the way from Dubai to Adelaide that they bump us to the front of the plane. Please all keep your fingers and toes crossed.
